When we enter a restaurant for the first time, music determines the perception we will have of it. The furniture, the painting, the decoration and of course the food taste also have an influence. But they are all elements that add to the perception we have of the restaurant.

Music for many years has been a hight factor and we cannot leave it lightly. A restaurant operator cannot ask staff to set any playlists they find on the internet. For him he will set what he likes on a personal level.

To choose a music playlist, it must be curated based on the brand elements we want to convey to our guests.

The decoration also influences the perception of the guests. Nowdays most restaurants have televisions that have the ability to show dynamic content. But we have limited them only to showing sports events and news.

Televisions can be windows that take guests to another location. They have the potential to create a unique environment that sets us apart from other restaurants where the customer might be.

If we join both, music and television, we will have a powerful tool to captivate our guests.

To create an atmosphere using televisions and music we need the following steps:

1. Choose the screens contents. We must choose the videos, or photographs that create an atmosphere. We can use resources such as YouTube or shutter stock, and look for images or videos that reinforce the environment we want to transmit. These images may change depending on the time or day of the week.

2. Choose a curated and closed music playlist so that guests have a consistent experience. Playlists can be chosen by genres of music.

3. Vary the BPM as the day goes by. Each song has unique parameters, but the most important is the beats per minute. It is the measure of speed of the songs. The guests will generally be moved and synced to this extent. So faster bpm will make the guests finish faster. This is ideal when the restaurant is full. While a slow bpm, allow the guest to relax. This is ideal for the afternoon or dinner.

These are some ideas that you can use depending on the different environments you want for your restaurant.

Haute cuisine pizza
Televisions: Videos from Italy, Venice, gondolas.
Music: I generate quiet pop, alternating with songs in the Italian language.
BPM: Less than 100 bits per minute.

American Burgers Fast Food
Televisions: Extreme sports, parachuting, rappelling
Music: Pop in English, Urban, Hip Hop
BPM: In the morning before 11 am use slow bpm less than 100. At noon and at night, bpm above 120.

Mexican Foods
Televisions: Videos of Regional Mexican Music, Horses, Horseback Riding, Jaripeos
Music: Regional Mexican, Band, Urban
Bpm: This is not important

Argentina Steak Grill
Televisions: Fire, Steak, Meat Roasts, Vineyards,
Music: Spanish Pop, Urban
Bpm: Slow less than 100.

I hope these examples serve you and do not forget that you can complement your decoration with televisions and help you reinforce your visual strategy to your guests.

Share it with whoever you think can help.

I´ll see you later
